We all know that starting the day right is very important. Having a good start to the day can make a positive different on the rest of the day as well. This “Start the Day Right!” program essentially means that at the start of the school day students will be given a choice as to how you would like to start the day in relation to the Good Morning Greetings. This program includes the following six options: Saying “Good morning” Giving a High Five Hug Wave Fist Pump Handshake This program will be a great way to build a sense of classroom community, unity, build rapport and a sense of connection with each other. To introduce this program into the classroom a student letter has been written explaining and introducing the program to students. There are visuals for each option included and you simply put the visuals on the wall and as you walk into the classroom students can choose which option they would like to use. This is a great self-reflection workbook that can be utilized in its entirety or as separate activity worksheets. There is a total of 16 pages which encourages self reflection around the students level of anxiety level and introduces the concept of concurrent emotions (i.e.: that one emotion can exist with others). This resource primarily focuses on anxiety and worried but also explores the following emotions which exist concurrently. These include: anger, disgust, disappointment, excitement, furious, tired, scared, nervous, lonely, innocent, confused, embarrassed, happy, frustrated, worried, sad, shocked, surprised, proud, irritated. There are a total of 16 worksheets which each one explores a social/emotional trigger for anxiety. For example, public speaking or trying something new. These 48 cards were developed for children to learn in a non-threatening manner key areas relating to positive behavior, protective behaviours, relationships, sexuality and puberty. By having children utilize these cards with others, an equal opportunity exists for role modelling, education and learning from others appropriate responses to the questions. Even when inappropriate responses are provided, it provides the foundation for reflective understanding and development of insight and learning. These cards allow for self-expression, enhancement of self esteem and confidence and brainstorming alternative behavioural and interactional choices and actions. This workbook explores over 24 different feelings and emotions and explores each one in details. For each emotion and feeling there are three pages dedicated to writing, drawing, colouring and reflective exercises. This workbook will allow your students to express their thoughts and feelings about different emotions and explore them through writing, drawing and pictures in a trauma-informed way. Students can be as creative as they would like in their workbook. This workbook reiterates the key message that all feelings are okay. That there are no bad feelings, only bad ways of dealing with them. Note that there are no page numbers so it can be up to your discretion as to what pages you would like to print/use should you not wish to use the entire workbook. The feelings and emotions that we will explore in this book are: Surprised, suspicious, angry, confused, silly, shocked, scared, sad, nervous, sick, peaceful, proud, disappointed, disgusted, embarrassed, excited, frustrated, furious, happy, innocent, irritated, lonely, tired and worried. Engaging students in conversations about emotions, empathy and perspectives can be difficult. The resource includes the following on each page: one specific scenario questions relating to that scenario (emotion - how would they feel questions?) an area for students to write down notes and thoughts 20 feelings and emotions with pictures of emotions in action. Students can explore each emotion as it relates to the scenario or attempt to isolate the emotions/feelings that can be attributed to that scenario. Supporting Children to isolate their feelings and emotions and getting them to attribute them to the source can be very difficult. Sometimes a little bit of extra support is needed to help build emotional literacy and development.
